Life Overseas

I thought I might post a few pics of our life here in Central Asia. Below you can see Mike and Marcy's local clothing. They are very comfortable. Mike's pants (as you can see below) are really huge. They usually cinch them up and have lots of extra room for moving around while sitting on the floor. Marcy has to wear the long black coat whenever she goes out. It was really hot when the weather was 115 degrees. Thank goodness things are beginning to cool off a little. We have only been in the 90's lately. :)

Here is a picture of our house. It looks pretty impressive, but we only live on the second floor. There is a single girl that lives on the first floor. It is like two different apartments. We really like our house.

In other news, our crate finally arrived! We were so excited to get it. Zane keeps saying "Hey, I remember that" each time he sees a new book or toy that was packed away. Gabe is just loving all of the new things. It was like Christmas around here. I was most excited about all of my kitchen stuff. I have been waiting to make some red beans and rice until I got my Tony's. I made them the day after we got the crate. I think I might have gotten a little Tony's happy in my excitement. They were nice and spicy!!

We are back in the throws of potty training. UUUGGGHHH! We were almost there several months ago, but then Zane reverted when all of the transition began. So, this is the first relatively calm, non transitional time since the end of '08. It has been two days - somewhat discouraging days, but we are hanging in there. I am determined to have no more diapers for Zane. Pray that it goes well, he "gets" it and that Mom and Dad can have patience with him.

Gabe is beginning to talk. He said his first word last week. You won't believe what it was - "Amen". Just like Zane's first word. We were flabergasted! The same first word for both of them. We were at dinner and prayed for our food. When the "amen" came, we all - including Gabe - said it. He also says "nap". Of course there is "mama" and "dada" too.

Thought you might like to hear a "Zane-ism". Zane is at the age where he says the cutest things. He was talking with a friend of ours about her forehead. Then he looked at her perplexed and said "Where is your fivehead?" Too cute. I will have to start jotting these down.

More later!

Finally - a new post

I was appalled to see that I have not updated my blog since November of '08. What a slacker! Well, it took ALL DAY, but here are some updated family pics (mostly of the boys since they are the cute ones anyway).
Please check back every now and again. I am going to try to do better at updating the pictures and just jotting down random things from our life in Central Asia. This will be my way of keeping you in the loop of the Houston's Happenings overseas. Enjoy!
